Abstract
Objectives To report an innovative method in treating refractory sudden deafness. Methods Clinical data of 44 cases of refractory sudden deafness were studied retrospectively. The patients included 24 males and 20 females, aged 47 years on average (33 to 68 years), and the disease duration ranged from 2 weeks to 2 months. All cases had undergone and failed the routine vasodilation and neurotrophic therapies, and even unconventional therapies including high-pressure oxygen, acupuncture and physical therapy in a few cases. Batroxobin antithrombosis was provided as one course of treatment, and plas-ma fibrinogen was monitored. Results Significant improvement of hearing occurred in 34 of the 44 cases (77.3%). Conclu-sions Batroxobin antithrombotic therapy seems to be an effective rescue treatment for cases of sudden deafness that have failed the 2 weeks routine treatments, with significant hearing benefits.关键词
