Efficacy of combination therapy of dual wavelength Intense Pulsed Light and topical tacrolimus 0.1%ointment on treatment of rosacea

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of combination therapy of dual wavelength Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and topical tacrolimus 0.1% ointment on treatment of rosacea. Methods Sixty-five subjects with erythematotelangiectatic rosacea or papulopustular rosacea were divided randomly into three groups. Group combination and group IPL were treated with 3 sessions of IPL at 2 weeks intervals, group combination and group TLM received tacrolimus 0.1%ointment twice daily for 8 weeks.Scores and side effects were evaluated and recorded by physician's assessment by two blinded dermatologists for 8 weeks. Results At 8th week, the decline in severity scores of the group combination,IPL and TLM was 7.76 ± 2.37,7.41 ± 2.06 and 5.40 ± 2.92 respectively,the differences between the three groups were significant (P<0.05).Total efficiencies of the group combination, group IPL and group TLM were 84.85,82.35% and 42.11% respectively.No serious adverse event was observed in either group. Conclusion IPL and tacrolimus 0.1% ointment are both safe for treatment of rosacea,IPL improves rosacea better than tacrolimus 0.1% ointment for 8 weeks'treatment,short-term combination therapy of IPL and tacrolimus 0.1% ointment on rosacea has no clear advantage over that of IPL.关键词
