Journalism Development in Anhui from 1919 to 1924:Base on the Journalism Investigation by the Japanese Consular in Wuhu

Abstract
During the years between 1923 and 1924, the Japanese consular in Wuhu provided two reports of journalism devel-opment in Anhui secretly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan .According to the reports, from the end of the Qing Dynasty to 1924, journalism in Anhui underwent the stages of sprouting, depression and rapid development.For a moment, there were over twenty newspaper offices in Anqing, the capital of Anhui province.Later, most newspaper offices were closed because of poor management and insufficient funds;some needed to turn to the provincial government for help.The selection of the provincial sup-port exerted influence on the existence, continuation and development of newspapers and journalism in Anhui.After a short-term prosperity, there were only five newspaper offices at the end of 1924.关键词
