摘要
Abstract
Jude the Obscure is the last but the most controversial novel of Hardy. Litter Father Time that Hardy described in this novel has been ignored for a long time. Even when he was mentioned, critics considered that this character Hardy de-scribed was unbelievable, especially his behavior that he eventually killed Jude’s two children and himself. This paper tried to explain Litter Father Time’s choice from the perspective of utilitarianism with detail examples taken from the novel and ana-lyzed the reason of his last choice. Hence this paper intended to reveal the problem of children’s support and education, which has some realistic significance.关键词
