Analysis and Treatment of Partial Discharge in High Voltage Test for TSC Thyristor Valve with 35 kV SVC Device

Abstract
The thyristor valve is used As the core component of Static Var Compensator( SVC ),the thyristor valve should be carried through a series of insulation tests to verify if the withstand voltage and partial discharge start voltage will meet the requirements according to the relevant IEC standards and the standards of the power industry regulation and the need of the project. Because of the high voltage grade of 35kV thyristor valve,the various structures and insu-lating materials will cause the problem always happen that the partial discharge of thyristor valve in regular test voltage exceeds the permitted value. If the partial discharge problems are not handled effectively,the product operation will bring severe hidden trouble of insulation. In view of the above situation,the typical partial discharge problems in high voltage test with a new TSC thyristor valve with 35 kV SVC device are studied in this paper. The corresponding analysis method and solution strategy are proposed,which indicate that the unreasonable electrical structure is the main reason for partial discharge by judging the exceed part through experiments,and it will also cause the small air gap or the ex-istence of the floating potential. With the electrical structure improvement and the equipotential treatment,the partial discharge values satisfy the test requirements. The proposed method is fast and effective,and relevant test on the appli-cation of power electronic devices is of certain reference function.关键词
