Practical approach for lateral stability calculation of continuous beam-arch hybrid bridge

Abstract
The lateral buckling of single-plane continuous beam parabolic arch hybrid bridge subjected to a uniform vertical load is investigated.Based on energy principle,a practical formula is devised and also the influence coefficient of side span is proposed for the first time.The proposed practical formula is verified by comparing the analytical solutions with the finite element results.It is concluded that the simple and accurate practical formula proposed by taking into account the effects of comprehensive aspects can provide references and assistance for a better design of the similar type bridge.Moreover, a detailed parametric study shows that the side span has significant effect on the lateral stability and increasing the length of side span can further enhance the lateral stability within a reasonable side-main-span ratio.关键词
