Abstract

Aqueous extracts (00.01 , 0.005, 0.010, 0.020 g· mL-1 ) obtained from roots of Ailanthus altissima at different ages (5 years old and 43 years old) were prepared to deal with the seeds of A.altissima and Robinia pseudoaac cia.The results showed that the effects of root aqueous extracts at different ages were different on the seed germination and seedling growth of two target species.The root extracts of 5 years inhibited seed germination, elongation of radicle extension of R.pseudoacacia and A.altissima. It also inhibited elongation of seedlings of R.pseudoacacia.The root extracts of 5 years inhibited elongation of seedlings and fresh weight of A.altissima at 0.020 g· mL-1 , and stimulated elongation of seedlings and fresh weight of A.altissima slightly at other con-centrations.The root extracts of 43 years which inhibited seed germination of R.pseudoacacia stimulated seed germination, elonga-tion of radicle extension and elongation of seedlings of A.altissima. It also stimulated the elongation of radicle extension and elonga-tion of seedlings of R.pseudoacacia at 0.001 and 0.005 g· mL-1 concentrations.In addition, R.pseudoacacia was more susceptible than A.altissima to the root aqueous extracts. At the same concentration, the inhibited effect of 5 years was higher than that of 43 years old on the two target species.
