Abstract

In the background of growing environmental awareness, rapidly developing technology and widespreading concern of regionality, the traditional dichotomy between architecture and landscape has been broken, and boundaries blurred. As landscape and architecture are increasingly inseparable and there has been more and more practices concerning the integration of the two elements, the gap between them needs to be bridged. Due to the comparatively short class hour of architectural design course for the major of landscape architecture, it should be adapted to fit the needs of this major. This article, based on current trend of architectural design course development, proposes that we should lay stress on cultivating students’ design capacity of architectural form and equip students with the ability to integrate landscape and architectural design. Focusing on this main line, this article puts forward the goal of architectural course for landscape architecture and the training of related abilities. On the basis of general education of architecture, the course should focus on architectural design capabilities from the perspective of space and place, function and space, structure, structure and materials, construction techniques. Traditional Chinese architectural design is proposed as a distinguishing feature of architectural design course for the major of landscape architecture.
