Expression and significance of Yes-associated protein in tongue squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression of YAP in tongue squamous cell carcinoma and its role in the oc-currence and development of squamous cell carcinoma of tongue.Methods A total of 112 patients with tongue squamous cell carcinoma were enrolled in this study.The expression of YAP protein in cancerous tissues and in adjacent tissues were detected by real-time RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry and Western Blot.Results The positive expression rate of YAP in tongue squamous cell carcinoma was 92% ( 103/112 ) .The positive expression rate of YAP was 19.6%(22/112) in adjacent tissue.The positive expression rate of YAP in tongue squamous cell carcinoma was significantly higher than that in adjacent tissue (P<0.05).The positive expression rate of YAP in tongue squamous cell carcinoma patients was not related to gender, age and clinical stages, but related to the pathological grade ( differentiation) of squa-mous cell carcinoma.There was a correlation between the positive expression rate of YAP and of the tongue.The lower the differentiation degree is, the higher expression rate will be, while there were significant differences between them (χ2 =11.68, P<0.01).The positive expression rate of YAP were higher in lymph node positive patients than those in node negative patients (χ2 =4.47, P<0.05).Conclusion The expression of YAP in tongue squamous cell carcinoma was high, which may be involved in the occurrence and development of squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue.关键词
