Abstract

In order to reveal energy distribution and flow pattern of concentration signals in an Impinging Stream Mixer ISM, planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) technology and Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) were used to analyze concentration signals in the Impinging Stream Mixer (ISM). The energy distribution of the concentration signals in ISM was determined via Hilbert spectral analysis (HSA) and experimental results show that the moving energy of the scroll is mainly concentrated in low-frequency areas, and the values are high but steady. Oscillatory movement of individual particles is the main movement form in high-frequency areas. The influences of different nozzle diameters and nozzle spacings on the impinging effect was compared. The extraction of energy eigen-values demonstrates basic principle of impinging stream and the flow field in ISM can be divided into three zones, i.e. impinging center zone, scroll zone and recirculation zone. The increase of flow rate can enhance the mixing reaction efficiency in the impinging stream mixer.
