摘要

Abstract

With the research background of the concentrically braced steel frame with pinned connections for a typical main factory building of a large thermal power plant, the effective length factors for stepped columns were studied. Based on the small⁃deformation elastic stability theory, the effective length factor for the two⁃stepped column with one side pinned and another placed elastic support was derived and verified in comparison with the value calculated by the eigenvalue buckling analysis. The derived and calculated results are in good a⁃greement. Taking the 3⁃axis transverse frame selected from the large thermal power plant as an example, the effective length factor and stability bearing capacity for columns were verified by the eigenvalue buckling analy⁃sis and elasto⁃plastic buckling analysis. The results showed that the stability bearing capacity calculated by the numerical analysis is in good agreement with the theoretical value. For the columns in the concentrically braced steel frame with pinned connections, it is suggested that the effective length factor should be calculated by the derived formulas in this paper. The advantages are that the lateral displacement type of frame does not need to be judged firstly, and that the restriction effect of the upper and lower columns on the research column can be considered for the sideway columns.
