Experimental study on mercury capture using non-carbon sorbents in 100 MW coal-fired power plant

Abstract
The mercury removal from the flue gas discharged from a 100 MW coal-fired power plant in China by non-carbon sorbents CuCl2 impregnated alumina and zeolite were experimentally investigated in this paper. When the sorbent were added into, the mercury speciation in flue gas across ESP was directly sampled and analyzed using EPA 30B standard method. The effect of injection rate was studied. The mercury balances measured on-site were between 77.1%-111.5%, and the results of mercury balance after correction suggested that the rates of mercury removal increased with increase of injecting amounts, and was up to 30.6% for modified alumina and 29.2% for modified zeolite. The Hg0 content in flue gas reduced considerably after sorbent injection, and decreased from 40% to 22% when the sorbent injection rate was 0.22 g·m-3. Non-carbon sorbent injection combined with WFGD system could be an effective technology for controlling mercury emission of coal-fired power plant.关键词
