Abstract

Main cable installation and its alignment control are the most important procedures during the e -rection of self-anchored suspension bridges .An investigation into the key issues of the procedures has been carried out in this paper , taking the Nanjing Xiaolongwan self-anchored suspension bridge as a study case . The proposed control objective is aimed at “leveling the box girder and straightening the tower”.The back-ward and the forward iteratives are carried out in order to obtain the cable configuration at completion , cable configuration at free-hanging, the cable unstressed length and saddle offset displacement , etc.The main rea-son for cable wire bulge has been identified .By precisely controlling the cable configuration at free-hanging , and tensioning the hangers and pushing the saddles into its final position stepwisely , the main cable configura-tion reaches its designated precision .And the stresses of the main tower and girder falls into a rational range . This paper will be informative for cable erection of self-anchored suspension bridges .
