Comparison application value of frozen-section and fast paraffin-section examination in diagnosis of tumors of the central nervous system

Abstract
Objective To compare the application value of frozen-sections and fast paraffin-sections examination in di-agnosis of tumors of the central nervous system. Methods 293 patients with suspected tumor in the central nervous sys-tem admitted into our hospital from June 2013 to June 2014 were selected as research object.All cases received patho-logical frozen-section and rapid paraffin-section examination.The results of the pathological examination and the patho-logical results of postoperative routine paraffin section was compared and analyzed respectively.The sensitivity,specifici-ty,the positive predictive value and negative predictive value of the methods was calculated and compared respectively. The time needed among three methods was compared respectively. Results The time needed in examination of postop-erative routine paraffin section was(5.07+0.28) d,the time needed in examination of fast paraffin sections was(6.49+0.67) h and the time needed in examination of frozen section was(6.91+0.54) h.The time needed in examination of frozen sec-tion and fast paraffin section was significantly less than that of conventional paraffin section after operation (P<0.05). 256 cases were diagnosed with central nervous system tumor in examination of postoperative routine paraffin section,ac-counting for 87.37%.37 cases suffered no central nervous system tumor,accounting for 12.63%.By using the method of fast paraffin -section in diagnosis of tumors of the central nervous system,the sensitivity, specificity,positive predictive value,negative predictive value and the accuracy rate of diagnosis was significantly higher than that by using the method of frozen section respectively (P<0.05). Conclusion Using the method of fast paraffin section can find and diag-nose the tumors of the central nervous system in time and has high sensitivity,specificity and accuracy compared with the method of frozen section.It is worthy of popularization and application.关键词
