Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effects and safety of 1 Hz repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation ( rTMS) on cognitive functions in patients with schizophrenia .Methods Thirty-one patients who had auditory hallucination were randomly assigned to the rTMS therapy group ( n==21 ) sham group ( n==10 ) .To evaluate the effects of 1 Hz rTMS on cognitive functions ,Wisconsin Card Sor-ting Test(WCST),Repeatable Battery for the assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS),continuous performance test(CPT)and Stroop interference test were used to assess pre and post study .To observe the safety of rTMS ,measurements including electroencephalo-gram,electrocardiogram ,blood routine examination ,biochemistry and side -effect records were evaluated at baseline and the end of the study T.o compare the differences of the score changes in 6 weeks between two groups using repeated measures analysis of variance .Re-sults Compared with control group ,the rTMS group revealed significant improvements in correct words numbers of WCST (F=8.06,P<0.01)as well as in visuospatial/constructional(F=6.46,P<0.05)and verbal function (F=6.24,P<0.05)of RBANS after 10 treatments.Compared with control group ,the rTMS group revealed significant improvements in correct words numbers ( F=3.36,P<0.05)and achieved categories of WCST (F=3.57,P<0.05)as well as in immediate memory(F=4.50,P<0.05)and verbal function of RBANS(F=6.67,P<0.01)after 20 treatments.There was neither significant change on EEG nor adverse side effects after the rTMS treatment.Conclusion Executive,memory and verbal function of schizophrenia can be improved through 1 Hz rTMS treatment.rTMS is a safe and well tolerated treatment .关键词
