The Effect of Self-Esteem on State Anxiety of Undergraduates

Abstract
Objective To explae the difference and relativity among anxiety and self -esteem of undergraduates .Methods Rosen-berg's self-esteem anxiety scale(SES),Spielberger's state-trait anxiety inventory(STAI) to test 394 undergraduates.Using self-made emotionsevokedquestionnairetoinduceanxiety.Results ①Emotionsevokedquestionnairesuccessfullyinducedsubjects'anxiety;②Self-esteem acted the predictive role when people experience the negative life events ,the higher self -esteem,the less anxiety.③Whether before or after induction ,the group with low self -esteem had more anxious emotions than that with high self -esteem;④Wheth-er with high or low self -esteem,subjects had more anxious emotions after induction than before induction;but there was no obvious difference in variational range of emotions after induction between the two groups (t=1.328,P>0.05).⑤The level of self-esteem of female undergraduates was lower significantly than that of males (t=2.934,P<0.05);the level of self-esteem of higher grades under-graduates was higher significantly than that of lower grades (t=2.263,P<0.05),but there was no obvious difference in the level of state anxiety .Conclusion Females and lower grades have lower self -esteem.There are no differences in anxiety between gender and grades .关键词
