Abstract

The effect of initial concentration of humic acid,Mn2+ concentration,pH and conventional treatment on effluent quality of ozone biological activated carbon (O3 BAC)was studied in the selection of UV254 as a characterization of humic acid concentration. The results show that the removal of humic acid by O3 BAC process is a combination of the ozone decomposition,activated carbon adsorption and biodegradation. The removal efficiency of humic acid in effluent decreases with the increase of initial concentration of humic acid. The presence of Mn2+ in raw water contributes to the catalytic oxidation of O3;when Mn2+ dosage is 0. 75 mg/L,the removal efficiency of humic acid by O3 BAC reaches the maximum. Higher pH as well as pre coagulation and sedimentation both favor to the removal efficiency of humic acid by O3 BAC.
