Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of picture archiving and communication system ( PACS) in supracondy-lar wedge osteotomy for cubitus varus. Methods 58 patients with cubitus varus were retrospectively analyzed, who were treated with supracondylar wedge osteotomy and internal fixation. And the varus angle was 15°~29°. Preopera-tion osteotomy design was achieved in the PACS, the angle and the length were measured. 39 cases were fixed with plate and 19 cases were fixed with cross Kirschner wire. Results All deformities were corrected, the carring angle was 5°~16° according to postoperative X-ray. All cases were followed up for 12~29 months,the healing time of hu-merus osteotomies was 6~12 weeks. Ulnar nerve paralysis was occurred in 1 case,recovery was achieved by means of symptomatic treatment;backing out of the Kirschner wire occurred in 1 case. No related complications occurred, such as vascular injury, infection or myositis ossificans. The patients were evaluated using the criteria of Aitken and Rorabeek:excellent in 49 cases, good in 8, and fair in 1, the excellent and good rate was 98. 3%. Conclusions PACS used for supracondylar wedge osteotomy design, can accurately meter the angle and the length, it is a correct instruction when operation is performed.
