Abstract
Objective:To determine the different prevalence of erectile dysfunction (ED) in psoriasis patients in comparison with a healthy control group, and to explore the association of ED with metabolic syndrome, depressive symptoms and hormonal factors in psoriasis.Methods:Fifty-seven psoriasis patients and 79 control men were interviewed by their doctors and completed a questionnaire containing the five-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function ( IIEF-5) and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale ( CES-D) .The information on age, BMI, blood pressure, serum lipid, blood sugar and serum testosterone level were also collected. Results:Thirty of 57 (52.6%) patients with psoriasis recorded an IIEF-5 score indicative of ED, compared with 29 of 79 (36.7%) in control group, reflecting an age-adjusted odds ratio of 2.29 in favour of the psoriasis group (95%CI 1.06-4.98).A univariate analysis in the psoriasis group indicated that age ( per 5 years) , metabolic syndrome and depressive symptoms were the risk fac-tors for ED.The multivariate logistic regression model indicated that depressive symptoms was an independent risk factor for ED in psoriasis.Conclusions:The incidence of ED is higher in patients with psoriasis.Screening of ED should become a part of routine care in the management of psoriasis patients.关键词
