Improved tragus incision in the treatment of mandibular condyle fracture

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of improved tragus incision and RIF in the treatment of mandibular condyle fractures. Methods: 20 mandibular condyle fractures of 15 patients from January 2011 to January 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. All the patients were treated with improved tragus incision and ORIF. After surgery, they were followed-up for six months. And the maximum mouth opening occluding relation, facial nerve function, salivary fistula, 3D-CT and facial scar were analyzed. Results: All patients showed good occlusion and maximum mouth opening. 5 cases had temporary facial paralysis but returned to normal after 1~2 months, CT scans revealed that all condyles had completely anatomical reduction. There was no salivary fistula, and patients were satified with the scar concealment. Conclusion: Improved tragus incision is hidden and minimum. This approach is less likely to cause facial nerve damage and can achieve the reqiurement of the anatomical reduction and internal fixation of condylar fractures.关键词
