Knowledge of Aspiration Risk Assessment of Nurses in Respiratory Department

Abstract
Objective To investigate the current situation of aspiration risk assessment of nurses in respiratory department and to provide the basis for guidelines and trainings to prevent aspiration. Methods A self-designed questionnaire regarding current situation of aspiration risk assessment in respiratory department was used to investigate 103 nurses from the respiratory department. Results The mean total score of aspiration knowledge of nurses in respiratory department was 15.58 ±4.63, and general information was of no apparent significance to score on aspiration knowledge of nurses(P>0.05);89.3%of the nurses didn’t conduct routine anti-aspiration assessment clinically meanwhile 50.5% of the nurses never received aspiration knowledge trainings and 98.1% of nurses expected that relevant guidelines and trainings could be specially established and provided to prevent aspiration and 71.8% of nurses expected that special trainings for aspiration could be conducted by relevant academic organizations and standardized trainings could be carried out within hospitals. Conclusion Nurses in respiratory department present inadequate awareness in aspiration risk assessment and insufficient knowledge on methods for aspiration risk assessment, and it is necessary to formulate and strengthen conventional nursing practices and trainings on aspiration in respiratory department.关键词
