Abstract

Technology of switchgrass seeds breaking dormancy and adaptability in Ningxia Yellow River irrigation area were studied in the paper. The results showed that, its germination rate could reached up to 90% when the seeds stored in damp sand for 5 days at 4℃. Its germination rate could reached up to 87% when the seeds stored in the dried sand for 10 days at 4℃. The germination rate of this two methods were increased significantly, so they were both effective in breaking dormancy. There were significant differences on adaptability of 7 cultivars in Ningxia Yellow River irrigation area. The plant length, the growth rate, the tillers, the forage yield and the seeds yield of Gave-in-Rock were significantly better than other cultivars, so it was the most suitable cultivar in Ningxia Yellow River irrigation area. Shawnee, Blackwell and Dakota took second place. Forage yield and the seeds yield of Trailblazer and Pathfinder were relatively low and Alamo couldn't safely live through the winter, so they were not suitable cultivars in Ningxia Yellow River irrigation area.
