Abstract

The environment security situations of water sourcesinChina'shighlyurbanized areasareworrying;meanwhile,there exists an obviousapplicationdeficiencyofadvanced methods and toolsto support the environment security management.To solve this problem,the functional requirementsandthedevelopment schemesare discussed first anda GIS-basedinformationsystemwith several practical functionsis developed then, takingareservoirin Shenzhenforexample.An actual application of the system totheexamplereservoirachieves following results:theenvironmentalriskevaluationmoduleindicates thatShawan Sewage Interception Sluice, municipal roadsnear the reservoir, and bridges across the reservoir surface are the majorrisksourcesofaccidental water pollution;thesensitivezoningmodule revealsthe mostsensitive zonesof the water sourcearemainly locatedneararound thehead and the west side of thereservoir, however, there are still somesuch as Shatangbu communitylocated relatively faraway, whichdisplays thatthis module canoffset the defect of the technical guideline currently in effect for delineating source water protection areas concerning environmental risk prevention;the environmental prediction module shows thatpollutants willcost at least 20 hours todisperse and be transferred totheintake nearthedam, supposing an accidental pollutionevent takes place respectively at each site of the major risk sources;also using the environmental prediction module,boththefloodflow at Shawan Sluice and the discharge from the sluice into the reservoir because offloodreleasingcan beforecastedinadvance byusing hourly measured rainfall, besides,thepollutants'situation of transferring anddiffusionin thereservoir can be simulated after the floodreleasing;areal-time video surveillanceandon-linemonitoringof the reservoir water environment can berealizedwith the environmental monitoring modulebyinstalling associated equipments at suitablesitesofboththe sensitive zones andinthe waters.The achievementsdemonstratethat thedeveloped information system isbothpowerfulandpractical, and can be used toeffectivelysupporttheenvironment security managementofreservoir-type water sourcesinChina'shighlyurbanized areas.
