Long-Term Effects of the Yellow River Sediment Resources Utilization
摘要
Abstract
The high sediment-laden of the Yellow River had brought severe flood disaster for people on both sides,so the harnessing meas-ures are always focus on the attribute of sediment disaster. With the increasing demands for the water resources of the Yellow River and the special geographical features of the Loess Plateau,the Yellow River will still be a river with high sediment-laden and low water yields in the future. After a long term practice of harnessing the Yellow River,people come to realize the resources properties of sediment,which has great potentials in the Yellow River flood safety,soil improvement by warping and ecological reconstruction,land reclamation at the estuary and wetland ecological maintenance,the use of building materials,etc. It has been found that the sedimentation in the lower Yellow River is mainly caused by a few hyper-concentrated floods. While the sediment is intercepted in the reservoir,the sediment gradation is also automati-cally sorted,which would create the condition for sediment classification. Intercepting and reducing hyper-concentrated floods by reservoirs can not only reduce the downstream sedimentation and the floodplains inundation losses,but also create the precondition for the focused utili-zation of sediment resources,which shows significant social and economic benefits. Simultaneously,establishing a new concept for the organ-ic combination of reservoir sedimentation reduction and the sediment resources utilization will not only make the reservoirs continuously play its sedimentation reduction efficiency,but also highlight the long-term effects of the Yellow River sediment resources utilization. Therefore, to achieve the aim of long-term stability of the Yellow River,we must establish a good operation mechanism and strengthen the public propa-ganda to attract the social funds and people actively participate in the Yellow River sediment resources utilization.关键词
