Abstract
Objective:To improve the understanding of epilepsy in the elderly in order to facilitale the correct diagnosis and treatment by a retrospective analysis of the causes and clinical characteristics of epilepsy in the elderly of 116 patients.Methods:The etiology, clinical features and prognosis of 116 patients were analyzed in detail and summarized .Results:72 males and 44 females of epilepsy in the elderly of 116 patients were included ,aged from 60 to 84 years.111 cases had a clear cause ,namely, 66 cases with cerebrovascular disease , diabetes mellitus in 10 cases, 11 cases with traumatic brain injury, intracranial infection with 9 cases ,7 cases with intracranial tumors, electrolyte and metabolic disorders in 7 cases, cerebral atrophy in 1 cases;5 patients were not found a clear cause .The clinical manifestations consisted of GTCS in 57 cases, simple partial seizures in 17 cases, complex partial seizures in 7 cases, secondary GTCS in 20 cases, status epilepticus in 15 cases;There were 45 patients completely controlled during hospitalization .60 cases seizure frequency reduced , while 9 cases had not controlled and 2 died.Conclusion:Cerebrovascular disease , intracranial infections ,intracranial tumors and brain injury are the main reasons of epilepsy in the elderly .The most common form is GTCS .The elderly with epilepsy have a relatively good prognosis .关键词
