Abstract

The nautical weight⁃specific density must be determined in advance, mainly by rheological experi⁃ments and ship resistance experiments, to use nautical depth technology. It is a direct way to determine relationship between ship model resistance and mud weight⁃specific density using ship model resistance measurement system, as there is no condition for real ship tests at present. The ship model measurement system, in which the ship model velocity is controlled by a computer, acquires resistance data through a tension transducer and a PCI data acquisi⁃tion card. Then the resistance data can be converted to resistance through the conversion formula. The parameter calibration shows that the speed control error and the resistance measurement error are both not more than 1%. And the two experiments show that ship model measurement system works well in supplying reliable basis for determin⁃ing nautical weight⁃specific density properly.
