Abstract

The potassium permanganate is dropped into water to trace the leakage of hydraulic tunnel in Guangzhou Meizhou Reservoir. It is confirmed that the main reason of water leakage is the internal water pressure of tunnel. The phenomenon that water leakage only occurs in particular situation but not at the high or low water level is explained by analyzing the formation, development and restriction processes of concrete cracks which affect the interaction between the tunnel water and the surrounding water. On this basis, several reinforcing measures are adopted, including inner steel sleeve lining, backfill grouting between tunnel wall and surrounding rock, and consolidation grouting of existing faults along the tunnel. No leakage is observed after reinforcement.
