Abstract

As the Mid-route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project (SNWTP) diverts water to Beijing in 2014, Beijing will accordingly establish an integrated water supply system which consists of diverted wa-ter, local surface water and ground water. It will improve the reliability of water supply while impose new challenges. Inflow from SNWTP is determined after the regulating of the whole project, which is essential to the water supply system. In this paper, joint operation model aimed at the multiple water sources opera-tion in Beijing is established. The results show that (a) operation is highly reliable with no water shortage or water desertion in the water supply system;(b) the period of mixed water supply from local source and SNWTP lasts from 1 to 100 days under different inflow conditions;and (c) the period when the No. 9 wa-terworks and the water plants near the south main canal receive mixed water supply is longer than that of other water plants.
