Abstract

An accurate estimation evapotranspiration (ETc) is critical for precise water resource management and reasonable irrigation scheduling. In this study, the dual crop coefficient model, SIMDualKc, was vali⁃dated and verified to estimate ETc of tomato based on 3-season data calculated by water balance method in a greenhouse in Northwest China. Results show good agreement between observed and estimated ETc throughout the season. The estimation errors were small with average root mean square error of 0.55 mm·d-1 and mean absolute error of 0.44 mm·d-1. The value 0.50, 0.85 and 0.55 were obtained for, respectively, the initial, mid-season and late basal crop coefficients. The evaporation (E) was highest with 22.8 % of ETc during the initial stage and lowest with 3.2 % of ETc during crop development stage. The average sea⁃sonal E accounted for 5.9 % of ETc for all three seasons, indicating transpiration was the dominant compo⁃nent of ETc of tomato grown in greenhouse over the full crop season.
