The Cognitive Interpretation of Grammatical Metaphor:Research Based on the Prototype and Figure-Ground Theory

Abstract
The research on the metaphor enjoys a long history, which can be traced to the ancient Greek.Halliday was very keen on it as well and he studied metaphor meticulously.It is he who firstly put forward grammatical metaphor which included the ideational metaphor and interpersonal metaphor.The former one concentrates on the connotation of "idea", "grammar"and "metaphor"of congruent form and metaphorical form while the latter focuses on the relationship of "interpersonal function", "grammar"and"metaphor"about congruent form and metaphorical form.In order to elaborate on and reveal the value of grammatical metaphor, an in-terdisciplinary research is conducted to study it based on the prototype theory and figure-background theory in cognitive linguistics, in hope of providing a new perspective to the research and understanding of grammatical metaphor.关键词
