The Chinese Immigrants in the South Pacific Islands:Historical Development and Present Situation
摘要
Abstract
As a result of massive international exportation of Chinese Labors in modern history,the Chinese immigrant societies had established in the South Pacific Islands since the end of the Nineteenth Century. The earliest Chinese immigrants were largely naturalized after the Second World War,while larger groups of Chinese immigrants came since mid-1980s.The Chinese immigrants actively take part in building local so-cieties and promote modernization of the South Pacific countries both historically and contemporarily.Con-sequently they also set up advantages in some economic and political affairs to many other citizens.However the Chinese immigrants,whose contributions were sometimes unfairly charged by certain Western media and local politicians,were also involved in and impeded by local conflicts.Giving the grant China's strategy to promote cooperation with neighbor countries,the Chinese immigrant societies in the South Pacific Islands will be a positive and supportive force to bridge domestic society and local people.关键词
