Abstract

Five CuO/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts used for methanol synthesis were prepared by co-precipitation method with Na2CO3, CO (NH2)2, NaHCO3, C2H7NO and NaOH as precipitants, respectively. The effects of precipitants on the phase composition of the catalyst precursors were investigated, and the corresponding catalytic performance of the prepared catalysts were evaluated in a slurry bed reactor. The results showed that (Cu,Zn)2CO3(OH)2 and (Cu,Zn)5(CO3)2(OH)6 were active components in catalyst precursors which were prepared by precipitants containing CO32-. (Cu,Zn)2CO3(OH)2 phase was easier than (Cu,Zn)5(CO3)2(OH)6 to be formed, and both of them could be decomposed to form CuO-ZnO solid solution in which the synergistic effect of copper and zinc was high, resulting in high catalytic performance. The dispersion between CuO and ZnO in the catalysts prepared by precipitants containing OH-was poor, resulting their bad catalytic performance. TG-DTG results showed that the catalyst prepared by Na2CO3 as precipitant had the highest content of (Cu,Zn)2CO3(OH)2 and (Cu,Zn)5(CO3)2(OH)6 in the five catalyst precursors, which made it had the best catalytic performance:the CO conversion was 40.45%;STY for methanol was 256.8g·kg-1·h-1;and the deactivation rate was 0.77%/d.
