Abstract

In recent years, the relationship between economic growth and environmental deterioration has become a hot issues of socio-economic development. The paper explored the succession trajectory of environmental kuznets curve based on economic and environmental data of Dongguan City from 1990 to 2010. The results showed that the curve presented a peak value in 2007 in the shape of “inverted U-type” with a per capita GDP of 45.1 thousand RMB yuan. As for the single indicators such as wastewater discharge, waste gas emission and solid waste storage volume representing environmental deterioration, they showed the shape of weak“inverted U-type”curve, the rising phase of the“inverted U-type”curve and“inverted U-type+the rising phase of the inverted U-type curve” respectively. It is concluded that the Environmental Kuznets Curve is closed to pollutant emissions, industrial reconstructing, environmental protection policies and environmental protection investment. In conclusion, Dongguan City can adjust the industrial structure, increase investment in environmental protection and take other measures to promote economic transformation and accelerate the formation of the second half"inverted U"curve.
