摘要

Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between HMGB 1 and oxidative stress in patients with atrial fibrillation ( AF) .Methods 53 patients with paroxysmal AF and 33 patients with persistent AF were enrolled in this study .30 age-and sex-matched healthy subject were considered as control group .Serum con-tents of HMGB1 and malondialdehyde ( MDA) as well as superoxide dismutase ( SOD) activity were measured . Results HMGB1 and MDA levels in persistent AF group was higher than those in control group and paroxysmal AF group (P<0.05).HMGB1 and MDA levels in paroxysmal AF group was higher than those in control group (P<0.05).In addition, SOD activity in paroxysmal AF group was lower than that in control group (P<0. 05).The serum MDA level was positively correlated with the serum HMGB 1 level (n=86, r=0.524,P<0. 05), while the SOD level was negatively correlated with the HMGB 1 level (n=86, r=-0.481,P<0.05). MDA, SOD, hs-CRP and HMGB1 levels were independent predictors for AF .Conclusion Increased oxidative stress level may contribute to the elevated HMGB 1 level in AF patients .
