Abstract
Objective To assess the necessity for routine ureteral stenting before extracorporeal shock Wave lithotripsy ( ESWL) for renal calculi .Methods A total of 160 patients with renal calculi amenable to ES-WL were randomized divided into group A ( stented group , n =80 ) or group B ( unstented group , n =80 ) . The stone clearance rate and its complications were compared between the two groups .Results 9 patients in group A,6 patients in group B had >5 mm residual fragments..In these patients second ESWL session was necessary.Three months stone-free rate was 88%in group A and 91%in group B, respectively.There was no statistical difference in flank or abdominal pain , nausea, vomiting, transient hematuria, temperature or use of analgesics on the first and second day after ESWL in the stented or unstented group .During 3 months after ES-WL, there was no anatomical ureteral narrowing happened in both groups .Conclusion The use of double-J stents prior to ESWL treatment is not necessity for renal calculi .关键词
