摘要

Abstract

To examine the effects of praise and criticism on school engagement , a total of 464 middle school students were tested .Ques-tionnaires of school engagement and experience of praise /criticism were used to collect data .Results indicated that:( a) the level of school engagement decreased statistically during middle school .There were 32.7 percent of students with lower levels of school engage-ment in grade 9;( b) praise and criticism from teachers and families were significant predictors of school engagement .Praise had posi-tive effects on school engagement in three grades , while criticism had negative effects .
