Abstract
Objective This study sought to evaluate the effects of statin use on the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease (AD)and to identify other potential risk factors for AD.Methods A retrospective obser-vational study was performed that assessed clinical records from 289 elderly patients.These patients were grouped into either the control group (213 patients)or the AD group (76 patients)based on the presence or absence of a positive diagnosis of dementia.The relationships between the development of AD and various fac-tors,including statin use,were analyzed using unconditional logistic regression.Results We found that statin use was negatively correlated with the incidence of AD (β=-2.874;odds ratio =0.056;95% confidence in-terval:0.024 ~0.130;P <0.001).In contrast,the presence of hypertriglyceridemia,lacunar infarction or cerebral infarction sequelae was positively correlated with the incidence of AD (P <0.05).Conclusions Regular statin use may protect against the development of AD,whereas hypertriglyceridemia,lacunar infarction and cerebral infarction sequelae are all independent risk factors for developing AD.关键词
