Respecting Confucius While Suppressing Mencius：A Comparative Study of Yang Wenhui's Books of On A nalects o f Con f ucius and On Mencius
摘要
Abstract
Yang Wenhui ,a Buddhist disciple in late Qing Dynasty ,wrote two books of On Analects of Con f ucius and On Mencius ,w hich exposed and interpreted the implicit meanings of Confucian classics in the light of Buddhism theory .In the book of On A nalects o f Con f ucius ,Yang Wenhui respected Confucius so much that his admiration surpassed any other Buddhists in the history .However ,on the contrary to his respect to Confucius ,Yang Wenhui had many dissatisfactions to Mencius in the perspectives like Mencius defined human nature by the innocent heart of children ,caused confrontation between righteousness and benefits ,misunderstood ancient books and lack of mercy etc .T he reasons w hy Yang Wenhui admired Con‐fucius and dissatisfied with Mencius lay in not only the different ideological characters and historical status of Confucius and Mencius ,but also out of the needs of counterattack to Confucius'critics and therefore ,to refute Christianity to a certain degree from the standpoints of Buddhism .关键词
