Preparation and application of a novel durable flame retardant on cotton fabric

Abstract
A novel durable formaldehyde-free flame retardant for cotton fabric was prepared using hexa-chlorocyclotriphosphazene (HCCTP), acrylamide and diethyl phosphate as raw materials. The effects of the ra-tio of reactants, reaction temperature and reaction time were investigated. The preparation conditions were op-timized and the chemical structure of flame retardant was characterized by IR. The flame retardant was ap-plied in flame resistant finishing of cotton fabric. The influences of dosage of flame retardant, baking tempera-ture and pH on the flame resistant effect were investigated, and the flame retardant finishing process was al-so optimized. The optimized finishing process was obtained as: 200 g/L of flame retardant, 80 g/L of crosslink-ing agent, baking at 160 ℃ for 3 min, pH=6. The results of the thermal analysis of finished cotton fabrics indi-cated that the pyrolysis temperature obviously decreased and the residue greatly increased from 12.10% to 34.28%. The breaking strength loss of finished cotton fabric was less than 20%. The flame retardance of treat-ed fabric was excellent and reached level B1, and had good washing durability.关键词
