Abstract

A silver mediated electrochemical oxidation is a promising technique for the destruction of organic compounds .The destruction of spent organic solvent in nitric acid medium containing Ag + was studied by using a laboratory scale electrochemical oxidation cell and fresh 30% tri-isoamyl phosphate (TiAP) .The factors affecting the generation of Ag2 + and its capability to decompose TiAP were investigated , which include temperature , nitric acid concentration and current density . T he results show that the generation of Ag2+ increases with the concentrations of HNO3 and Ag+ and reduces with the increase of temperature .It is also found that the destruction rate of TiAP is 99.9% with a temperature of 40 ℃ ,a nitric acid concentration of 8 mol/L ,and a current density of 0.5 A/cm2 for 8 h .
