Abstract

With the development of smart grid, network reconfiguration becomes more and more important due to its crucial function in distribution automation. Considering the drawback of slow computational speed when stochastic optimization algorithms were applied to distribution network reconfiguration, a new coding strategy was proposed based on Mayeda spanning tree practical method combined with particle swarm optimization (PSO). With the new encoding method, the solution space of stochastic evolutionary optimization was limited within the feasible topology solution space and the radial topology detection procedure was avoided, and thus the evolution process was speeded up. Meanwhile, since the uniqueness of all trees built by the new coding method (means different branch exchanges consequentially generate different trees), any feasible solution in original network topology corresponded to a unique continuous code space, thus the shortcomings of high repetition coding rate were overcome and high evolution efficiency was maintained. Numerical examples verified the effectiveness of the proposed method, and with increase of system scale, its advantages were more obvious.
