摘要

Abstract

Wide area traveling wave protection can solve some problems of the existing traveling wave protection, such as single data source and low reliability, while protections must be equipped in many locations and this is not economic. To solve these problems, a novel wide area traveling wave protection was proposed in this paper. When a fault occurs, the fault region can be identified accurately just by analyzing polarity characteristics of every protection region; then the fault line can be determined by the integration of all the recorded arriving time information in the fault region. When the topology of the power network changes, only is local modification needed to improve the adaptability of the wide area travelling wave protection. Simulated results showed that the proposed protection is simple and can be easily realized. With a limited number of travelling wave detection units, it can accurately determine the fault line, and this can help to improve the engineering application of traveling wave protections.
