Abstract
John Updike,who has been known as a “chronicler”of the 20th century contemporary American society and whose writing career overlapped the Cold War era, not only got involved unwillingly in a debate on the Cold War in the American literary circle,but also wrote works which definitely have to do with some relevant topics about the Cold War in a direct or indirect way.In terms of his value,attitude and daily behavior,Rabbit,the protagonist of John Updike’s representative work"Rabbit Angstrom:A Tetralogy"and a member of the comparatively conservative middle class,serves mostly as an embodiment of both the impact of the Cold War between the two opposing camps represented by the United States and the Soviet Union and the Cold War mentality of the contemporary American society.关键词
