Abstract

Corporate culture is the basis for brand building.Brand in its essence is a commitment to create value for stakeholders while acquiring its own value.Are the stakeholders in China's enterprises aware of the importance of corporate culture? Is this awareness or value commitment obviously connected with the corporate performance? To answer these questions,the present paper takes the listed companies in Shanghai Stock Exchange as examples.The following findings are obtained through the empirical analysis:the number of stakeholders concerned by the value commitment in the corporate cultural concept has obvious positive correlation with average annual growth rate of the company's prime operating revenue,the average rate of return on net assets and the stock price growth rate;the attention to the stakeholders from the companies with excellent performance is much more than that from the companies with poor performance.Concern for stakeholders can be generally classified into five scales ranging from"0"to"4"or even more,which,as the findings show,are obviously correlated with the companies'the return on average equity.This shows that the corporate culture has a great impact on the company's long-term operating performance.The performance of the listed companies which attach importance to the stakeholders is much better than that of the companies without corporate cultural features.Among 356 listed companies investigated,161 companies have little or weak concern for stakeholders,accounting for 50.3%.30 listed companies which concern for stakeholders can achieve scale"4"or more,less than 10%.This shows that most listed companies'concept of corporate culture and sense of stakeholders are still very weak,a far cry from the goal of building a powerful brand.
