Relationships among Ambulatory Pulse Pressure,Pulse Pressure Index and Pulse Wave Velocity in Patients with Essential Hypertension

Abstract
Objective:The aim of the study was to investigate the relationships among ambulatory pulse pressure (PP),pulse pressure index (PPI)and pulse wave velocity (PWV)in patients with essential hypertension(EH).Methods:A total of 198 consecutive patients with EH,who were recruited from January 2013 to December 2013 ,underwent 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and PWV.According to the measurements,24-hour mean systolic blood pressure (24 h SBP)and 24-hour mean diastolic blood pressure (24 h DBP),PP and PWV were calculated.Results:The 198 cases were divided into 4 groups,in which PWV<20% predictive value,20% predictive value≤PWV<30% predictive value,30% predictive value≤PWV<50%predictive value and PWV≥50% predictive value.The ambulatory PP and PPI were significantly different among the 4 groups (P <0.05).As the degree of arteriosclerosis increased,the PP and PPI increased.Conclusions:Ambulatory pulse pressure (PP)and pulse pressure index (PPI)can reflect the situation of arteriosclerosis in patients with EH.The ambulatory PP and PPI obtained by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring has more practical significance in guiding the clinical treatment of hyper-tension.关键词
