Abstract

Objective To assess the satisfaction with training system and current status of trained general practice residents in Zhejiang Province and explore the suitable model for general practice development in China. Methods We made a cluster sampling from all residents who participated in Zhejiang Provincial General Practice Residency Training between 2000 and 2014. Self-designed questionnaire was used,which covered basic information survey and satisfaction survey on theory training, rotation arrangement and income level in training,etc. The satisfaction with their current status after training( e. g. work status, income level)was also surveyed. A Total of 297 questionnaires were received,effective rate was 100. 0%. Results Satisfaction rates with theory training,hospital rotation,community clinic rotation and overall evaluation were 71. 4%,68. 3%,65. 0%, and 72. 7% respectively. However,for master degree application and income level in training,the rates declined dramatically to 41. 0% and 38. 7%. There were significant differences(H=99. 087,P=0. 000)among the residents in the satisfaction with theory training,hospital rotation,community clinic rotation,master degree application and income level in training. For the residents who work in communities,first-class hospitals,second-class hospitals and tertiary hospitals,the satisfaction rates of current work status were 51. 3%,5/10,71. 6% and 57. 2% respectively, and the satisfaction rates of current post were 55. 2%,5/10,72. 9% and 52. 4%. Conclusion In the past fifteen years of the GP residency training,70% of the trainees were satisfied with the whole training system,while minority of them were satisfied with supportive conditions,such as master degree application and income level in training. Further,the statistic analysis showed that half of the residents were satisfied with their job,except for their working reward. The next step for general practice development in China should be focused on merging the GP residency training with master degree application,thus increasing the residents' income level in and after training,and strengthening the hospital-community cooperation.
