Abstract

Blue, yellow and red LED were applied as supplemental lighting to flue-cured tobacco seedling in solar greenhouse in comparison with no light supplemented in order to investigate the effects of LED supplemental lighting with different qualities on light radiation intensity, photosynthetic rate and tobacco growth. Results indicated that blue LED supplement significantly increased light radiation intensity of 400-510nm wavelength, yellow LED supplement 510-610nm wavelength and red LED supplement 610-720nm wavelength. Blue LED supplement resulted the highest stem diameter index, dry quality, root-shoot ratio and seedling index among all treatments, but thelowest plant height. Plant height under yellow LED supplemented treatment was the highest. With red LED supplement, photosynthetic rate was the highest while plant height was higher than with blue LED supplement and no supplement at all. Dry quality, root-shoot ratio and seedling index were higher than with yellow LED supplement and no light supplement. In conclusion, blue, yellow and red LED supplement could significantly increase light radiation intensity and hence tobacco seedling growth in greenhouse can be effectively control.
