Abstract
Objective:To assess the long-term safety and efficacy of gamma knife radiosurgery for treatment of typical trigeminal neuralgia (TN). Methods: Retrospectively analyzed the typical trigeminal neuralgia patients who received only single gamma knife radiosurgery treatment and the follow-up time for more than 60 months, To assess the long-term safety and efficacy of the treatment for TN, the related factors were analyzed at last. Results: A total of 69 patients were enrolled in this study and the mean follow-up time were 92 months(60-128 months). According to the pain intensity scale at the last follow-up, 14 cases(20.3%) were grade I, 10 cases(14.5%) were grade II, 26 cases(37.7%) were grade III, 13 cases(18.8%) were grade IV and 6 cases(8.7%) were grade V. Facial sensory dysfunction occurred in 15.9%of patients, but no serious treatment-related complications were found. The age, sex and pain site does not affect the gamma knife’s efficacy. Conclusion:Gamma knife radiosurgery is a safe and effective long-term treatment method for TN and should be considered as an alternative option for the patients who cannot tolerate invasive surgery.关键词
