Long-Term Effecacy of Progressive Surgical Treatment for Intractable Meniere’s Disease

Abstract
Objective The aim of our study was to independently investigate the long-term efficacy of surgical treat⁃ment in the management of vertigo attacks in patients with intractable Meniere’s disease. Methods Twenty patients with med⁃ically intractable and active Meniere’s disease opted to progressively try Meniett pulse generator (Meniett), endolymphatic sac decompression (ESD) and triple semicircular canal occlusion (TSCO) based on the patterns of their vertigo attacks. Pa⁃tients indicated on the symptom report card the maximum level of vertigo, activity impairment and stress. Results The mean follow up course in the 20 was 104-month. Vertigo attacks were controlled in 17 patients by Meniett, in 2 patients by Meniett plus ESD, and in 1 patient by combined Meniett, ESD and TSCO. The vertigo control rate was 85%, 15%and 5%, respective⁃ly. Conclusion It is important in treating intractable Meniere’s disease to progressively combine surgical treatment with oth⁃er treatment modalities for long-term control of vertigo attacks.关键词
