Structural optimization and numerical simulation of heat transfer and gas flow of ball-packed bed regenerative chamber

Abstract
In order to solve the problem of uneven temperature distribution on a horizontal plane within an operating regenerative chamber, a three-dimensional unsteady mathematical model was developed for describing heat transfer and gas flow process in a regenerative chamber based on the assumption of porous medium. The model considered portion non-equlibrium thermodynamics energy equations and a revised momentum equation was established by combining of a commercial computational fluid dynamics software, FLUENT, and its secondary development platform. The results calculated by mathematical model are in good agreement with test data, which indicates that this model established is correct. The results show that velocity and temperature gradients exist on the horizontal plane within the regenerative chamber. By turning the inclination of the wall opposite the inlet of gas into 60°, adding a buffer section of 300 mm in length and changing the type of air inlet into funnel type, the temperature field on the horizontal plane of the regenerative chamber can be more uniform.关键词
